Hex Rays moving into a subscription model

Folks,

I'm not sure if this is a good news or bad news. (To me it is bad news!)

All Hex Ray products will be available only on a subscription model starting from 1st January, 2022.

This means, no more standalone versions of software that could be used. I could be wrong as most of the labs where it is used does not have direct internet access and would be interested to see how the node locked or floating licensing model will be deployed.

This post is nothing but just a heads up to the community. :)

From 2022/01/01 we will update the catalogue of products available under our subscription model.

Our new bundles are HEX-RAYS Base, HEX-RAYS Core and HEX-RAYS Ultra. Those, in addition to our existing products IDA Pro Standalone and IDA Home will be available under the new subscription model only. We have halved the price of our products on this new model and hope that it will allow more users to access the software.

They say that the licensing will be exactly the same as before. No Internet needed. Only difference will be that the software stops working when expired. Before only the support expired and the software kept running.

Sounds patchable...

These days, there are alternatives like Binary ninja and Ghidra, the news was just a reminder to renew the Binja license! Anyway as deepzero said, sounds patchable...

This is definitely good point, IDA was always too overpriced. But subscription itself is not good, especially, that each platform and decompiler is actually an independent product.
