Hello, its been a very long time! Whats new?

The last post i made here was really in 2014, when i uploaded source code for a stripper for SafeDisc v4 that i coded in 2005 for FLT! So it has been quite a while.

What happened with Unpacking Gods? and Woodmann forums? Im at a point in life where i have some time.. so i was gonna get a debugger and check out some protections.. whats the best stuff now? Do people still use Olly Debug or you can do everything in IDA now?

I read that the Co-author of armadillo now offers a reverse engineering course lmao.. i laughed hard on that one, because even with custom armadillo features, there has never been a version of armadillo that lasted more than a few days, at least back then anyways.

Welcome back! Most of the reversing scene stuff has gone the way of private groups on chat apps like Telegram, Discord, and similar.
Forums are slowly dying out at this point in time across the board.

Woodmann went down then its full contents got archived and reposted. Not sure if anyone has taken the leap to rehost elsewhere but the content itself at least was not lost. It had a short lived relaunch but didn't stay around for much time.

New tools wise, x64Dbg is basically a full OllyDbg replacement and works for both 32bit and 64bit now. IDA is still also a great choice. IDA now has several new tools for competition though with their own set of decompiler tooling such as Ghidra, Relyze, BinaryNinja, and several others.

atom0s:
thanks for the welcome back :) now i got time, i will be more active. x64Dbg? OK im gonna check this out. And, IDA, im amazed at IDA right now from what ive been reading.

bolo2002:
i understand what you mean, but after seeing exetools still alive and kicking after all these years... with still a decent amount of activity, i believe it will still be alive when all other forms of group communication has died.

So im getting all the tools i need, trying to find IDA Pro, and im gonna be busy this week from the holidays (happy holidays to everyone!!) but after that, im very eager to see what is new in the reversing world :) so eager!! and so happy exetools is still alive!

@MEPHiST0:
welcome back!

everything regarding ida77 is over here https://forum.exetools.com/showthread.php?t=20068&page=4

in case smth was removed-let us know

You could still use old good stable super mature and blazing fast Ollydbg ver 2 (x32) or even Ollydbg x64! (available on ofsite https://www.ollydbg.de)

Happy Holidays!

I think Unpacking Gods are history since long time, never ever heard about them?
Reversing has changed, unpacking like this "gods" is nowerdays total easy for everyone, because of all this good tutorials in the scene

But nevertheless, nice to hear about someone getting back to reversing
So good luck for future...

The group name of Unpacking Gods is UG2000.
so it's about 22+ years ago.

I remember the era of UG. This is insane! How much time has passed!

I don't agree with you, there are lots of new protections. And lots of new virtualization technologies. Yes old stuff may be a lot easier, but that does not mean every packing/protecting mechanism is simple.
