Hello, I'am Efim Bushmanov a freelance researcher and here is my project files on skype research.

While "Wall Street Journal" makes politics and skype today's trend, i want to publish my research on this. My aim is to make skype open source. And find friends who can spend many hours for completely reverse it.

Now, most of hard things already done(for 1.x/3.x/4.x versions of skype). Including rc4 and arithmetic compression.

You have unique chance to take a look on skype internal protocol and encryption. You will see what it uses strong AES and RSA encryption with public key infrastructure.

Good to know M$ joins OpenSource and actively supports it... more or less ;)

Many people write me in PM. It not a question, it is information.

Looks like a reverse engineering project. It has nothing to do with M$. Frankly, I never expect M$ will make their $8.5 billion new toy opensourced.

I think M$ will change Skype protocol and how it works to make the RE'd opensource one become incompatible.

Skype already changed protocol, so you need to reverse it again (or maybe change some constants).

reckless 06-15-2011 13:57

wowthat's good!

Thats now based on an old version of the protocol. Regular clients will already refuse to communicate with that version.

They probably have not changed much, but it'll still take time to determine what has changed.

good news, glad to hear this.
