Thanking
Given the saying Thankyou and the removal of the Thanks system, how do I now thank a poster?. I know there is now a "Like" thing, but liking somebody and thanking them have nothing in common at all. I say thankyou to people many times each day, but I do not tell them I like them, how can I if I do not even know them?.
Please reintroduce a system of thanking posters. It seems a great shame that we are in a small minority of forums that do not have that facility. Git |
i also got warning by saying thank you :( , i havent seen any forum or site like this who gives punishment giving appreciation

I want to add something. After new rules i downgraded friend member. I repect that, there is no problem for me. rules are rules. After then I try hard to meet the requirements of being family member. But i can't. I need 4 more rep but members gave me thanks instead of rep for my useful posts. After new rules i got 3 rep and 14 thanks (or likes). but I can't be family member.
Finally there are two positive buttons. but one is more important than the other. I hope mods will find a solution to this duality. |
you have one rep from me mate:D

Dear Codeman,
I gave you one reputation point just now. So, one more rep and you will be upgraded. I think it not far now. Dear Git, When we click [Liked], it means we [Liked] the information/message he posted. |
So how do we thank the poster please?.
As an example, how can I thank you for posting your message above?. I don't like the contents of the post, I just want to thank you for posting the reply. This situation arises for me several times a day, I am sure I am not alone. Git |
Yea, maybe we should rename the 'Like' button to 'Thank You' instead. And rename the 'Reputation +1' to 'Add reputation' (+1 is really confusing since it's also used by Google Plus instead of like).
Anyways to answer your question Git: it's just a minor subtlety in language in my opinion, for now use the 'Like' button if you just want to thank someone for posting. If you feel like someone should be upgraded for his post, use the 'Reputation +1' button. For members that are Family or higher already, it doesn't matter. The intention from the forum staff was that Family+ members could give reputation to the 'Friends' so they can become 'Family'. The Like button is the replacement for the 'Thank you' button, but it went a little weird. |
Git said it! :)
Sometimes it's really hard to push "Like" and don't like it! I'm nearly 10 years here and I know, it's hard to lead a board like this. No admin and moderator should miff my words, but JMI did it in a unique good way. I never ever postet "thank you" for climbing up an imaginary ledder for getting VIP or something like that, I just was going my way in this forum, like in other boards too. But last time I feel haunted with new rules... :p Do this, do that not and so on. I feel coming up the time, you may throw out me and so I worry about... |

Thanks for all the discussion above.
We will use the two buttons as following soon. [Add Reputation] [Thanks] In the beginning, I thought [Thanks] could mean nothing but just an ending of a sentence. So, I chose [Like] instead of [Thanks]. Also, as I explained before, [Thanks] gave one reputation point in the past. Newbie user can collect enough [Thanks] to be promoted to VIP by a [Happy New Year] or [Happy Birthday] post. I know this is a mistake of promotion rule. So, we tried to make changes to avoid such kind of mistake. |
I don't understand, what's the difference between a button written with "Like" and "Thanks" If the aim is still the same, similarly with "Reputation + 1" and "Add" Reputation, Why change the text?. I understand that what is being considered and decided by administrators is to improve the Forum in all its threads, however I just don't see the need to change texts of buttons each time a member complains.

Aaron and I are not native speaker of English.
So, sometimes we choose phrases which are not proper or confusing. We hope old friends like you could help and explain for us when there is any misunderstanding. |
