vmprotect has a really good anti-debug. for such protectors you need to use advanced techniques of anti-anti-debuging like SSDT hooking,etc and unfortunately there isn't any plugin for ollydbg 2 that supports SSDT hooking,etc but in Ollydbg 1.10 you can use StrongOD+some other plugins.
If you have problem with running your olly in win8 you can use WinXPSP3 in Virtual Machine
