If you're cracking software, that is quite frankly your problem and they will not sell you anything anyway. Therefore you are entitled to use the freeware version and still go about your business. You could accomplish the same thing with softice and a hex editor as you can with IDA. Perhaps even Windbg, which is in fact free, and a hex editor plus a copy of the IA32 ISR.
