Wink Vmware Bios Edit Extracted Rom

I have noticed some people ask about digging inside vmware hw settings
here is the start
VMware Workstation's BIOS image is located under .rsrc\BINRES\ inside vmware-vmx.exe
The BIOS image is file 6006 with a size of 524,288 bytes

After extracting the Rom file "Phoenix Bios Editor" come to do the tricks
In DMI strings there is some usefel things to edit beside UUID

After editing and building the modified rom file , save to desierd workstation folder and edit the .vmx file add line
bios440.filename = "VmBIOS.rom"

Attached is moded extractedd rom from vmware 8 (my favourite)
Phoenix Bios Editor
Download: https://www.bios-mods.com/tools/index.php?dir=Phoenix+Bios+Editor+v2.2.13%2F&download=PhoenixBiosEditor2.2.13.zip

Good luck

For CPUID it is a bit unsafe to change as the CPUID tel which functions supported by cpu , changing it may lead to unstable behavior due to misreported functions , but after all it still can be changed , for vm sphere the variety of hardware options are way more easier to edit and very well documented

Boot and bios options arent a problem at all in workstation

For CPUID it was changed but lead to BSOD not every time for sure but some times after working for 1 min

how to make HDD (drive) serial number nothing (blank) and BIOS serial for example to be: ABC0DF12345678 ?
can be done with acronis hdd manager or with winhex ?

can somebody find out what info about PC a soft exe vmprotected asks for ?

for example an readerid...

There are in customised olydbg some BP but they are not for all cases

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/ht/biosverwin.htm

to change Bios version

with rom, I have olny succeded to change Motherboard serial number.

Till now I can change MAC, serial of primary partition, name/type of HDD, maybe HDD serial number but no idea how to make it make nothing, user name, computer name and Bios version.
If I want to keep Bios id on other PC, then have to choose I moved it.

any sugestions for Bios and CPU names and serial numbers are welcomed.

Something which have came to my mind is the VMXh Checks protectors use. Is it possible to change it without changing the drivers? (as that will require one to custom sign them etc)

Just a silly question, couldn't be used generic bios roms? for other motherboards?
