Hi, there.
I have a problem with Softice in DriverStudio 3.1 (2.7 also). My system is Win2K(SP4) with Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse. The keyboard and mouse share one receiver, which in turn connects to a USB port. The problem is, I can invoke softice window by Ctrl-D and keyboard works fine, but the mouse does not move. More seriously, after I close softice window by F5, the mouse is still unresponsive. It remains dead unless I reboot the machine. However, if I don't touch the mouse when softice window is present, after I press F5 the mouse works normally. I tried many options in settings: Disable mouse support, Do not patch keyboard driver, Disable USB keyboard patching, Disable USB mouse patching, Mouse none. As long as I don't disable USB keyboard patching, other options do not change anything. If I do, then even Ctrl-D stops working. I also tried setting MouseType = 0x8103 in registry, still no luck. I wonder if anyone has similar experience like this. Your help is appreciated. |

May I suggest you try three things which you should have already thought of. Go to the Compuware site and read their information about softice issues relating to the wireless mouse. This is not a new issue.
Second, SEARCH the net, using something simple, such as: "softice wireless mouse" and/or just "softice mouse" (without the quotes). Third, Search here with that same phrases and then go over to www.woodmann.net and conduct the same searches there. I know we have discussion of these issues over there. Oh, and don't post this same question over there without reading the FAQ linked in the BIG RED LETTERS at the top of their Forums, or I'll have to scold you again over there. I short, I'm suggesting you make an effort to help yourself before you ask others to help you. It's a good lesson for life. Now do your homework. Regards,

As a matter of fact, I did all the search work before posting except on
woodmann. Compuserve's database does not help, nor does the general web or USENET. Many pages talk about previous versions or different mouse types. There is a similar post on this board http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2560 but it has only the problem, not the solution. Don't tell me switching to PS/2 mouse is the solution. Anyway, looking on woodmann now and try to find something. Every option change of SoftICE requires rebooting, which is very time consuming. Hope it may work out but really not optimistic.

I have similar problems, it seems later versions of softice do not work with usb mouse, even if you checked usb mouse etc in troubleshooting configurations etc.
I eventually spent 10 bucks to buy a ps/2 mouse because any solution to a problem is a solution even though it's not ideal. In my case, I can give some more information, softice seems to load ok, but ctl+d cannot bring out the softice console. And after softice is loaded, mouse no longer works. I tried to replace the defalt mouse driver etc, but none of the solutions worked. A ps/2 mouse solved all these problems instantly. I can imagine a way to debug this problem is to use livekd+kd to figure out why the mouse ptr is lost and why ctl+d doesn't bring out the sice console. While switching from usb mouse to ps/2 mouse, i had some trouble with the registry, somehow the logictech mouse driver on the cd corrupted the registry relating to the mouse driver. I had to go to logitech website to download their latest utilities, fortunately it fixed the problem. Hope this information helps. |

want. I'm happy with the Logitech cordless keyboard/mouse, it works great. I have a limited desktop space and need to move keyboard/mouse around to make room for the writing. The cords are such a hassle to me, in fact that's the reason why I switch to bluetooth. Quote:
Anyway in my case the only glitch is that I must not move the mouse during the SoftICE session when the window is present - keyboard works fine. So now even though DriverStudio is installed, I just never start the SoftICE. ![]() Thanks anyway. |

Since you mentioned logitech wireless, have you noticed that there is a usb->ps/2 converter with the package, because one of my box uses logitech wireless setup with the usb->ps/2 converter, softice works fine.
livekd+kd will allow you debug any process on one computer, you don't have to set up remote debugging computer etc. livekd can be downloaded from sysinternals.com (the same place you get filemon and regmon) Anyway I imagine it's not a terribly difficult problem to debug if I had more free time, I'd have tried. |

I have no problems using SI 3.1 (also 2.7) with all my usb logitech mice. I works with one of my old version Logitech radio wirless usb mouse. But when the touchpad driver installer tells that the driver of my synapitics is not compatible with SI.
Actually I seldom use mice in SI. |
