cracking Securom protected games

I have a game protected with securom.
PeID says it is "SecuROM 4.x.x.x - 5.x.x.x -> Sony DADC"
I also seen people suggest it is protected with "SecuROM 7.00.00.0137" (although there has been a patch since release so the patch might be protected with a more recent build of securom than that)

Anyone have any ideas how to remove this protection?
Or to find out exactly which version of SecuRom the build I am interested in is using?

I am looking for a method that allows you to run with no cd in the drive at all (so it cant involve virtual drive software like Alcohol or drive image software like Blindwrite)
