Ida 4.6 calls back home???
hello, I've just installed winxp sp2 and as I started ida, windows firewall told me it I want to keep blocking ida from connecting, anyone knows why it does so??
Is it calling home?? thanks loman |

That is a possibility... IDA 4.5 seemed to do something like this also, as noted and addressed here: http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?p=13929#post13929

my understanding is that SP2 firewalls prompts you when a program opens a port, not when it is connecting.... So it might call home even if SP2 does not prompt, (as long as it does not try to setup some kind of network server).... yet this may just be the way it works... Some software seem to need this kind of thing, although this is accessed only through the local host...

It's not calling home, actually - it's just sending a broadcast accross the local network to find out if anybody else is already running IDA there. If yes, it gives you a warning (since it's a single-user license, so there shouldn't be multiple copies running simultaneously).
