ida moving to 64 bit world & IDA 6.9 SP
Hi folk I found yesterday this Information on hex-rays.com
Moving to 64-bit world ---------------------- " Currently IDA Starter and IDA Pro are 32-bit applications. This means that they can not use all system resources (notably, the memory), and this started to create problems with some especially huge input files. Therefore we decided to move to the 64-bit world. While IDA Starter will stay a 32-bit application, the 64-bit analysis engine will be compiled in the 64-bit mode. Please note that this also means that IDA Pro will not run on 32-bit operating systems anymore. We plan this transition to happen in the first quarter of 2017." |

idaq64.exe is not a 64bit application at the moment - it's a 32bit application with a 64bit database format (so it's meant to be used to analyze 64bit files). But as a 32bit program, it's still limited by the 4GB address space etc.
Yes, I believe it means that you won't be able to analyze 64bit files on a 32bit operating system. But we'll see... |
