Well, I've been using Eset smart internet Security + Comodo Firewall.

Never had problem with it.

If the antivirus fails, then here comes Comodo Firewall.

but as version rise, its slow and more slow
Using KIS 2011 because i have 2 years free license installed on my Laptop and NOD32 4 on my PC because i love the database backup, its really pain the ass when you have slow bandwidth and need to reinstall the AV

avira premium ...... Please dont mention as g0d. It fails too hard!!

Umm KIS 2011 is lovely! But not so good for windows7 64bit (x64) , beacuse of kpp - and kernel mods. Well we all know kasperky do much in kernel. Anyways apart from that, safe run- (i.e kasperksys own sandbox) is no option for 64bits, and some aspects of engine failing in some bits. Unlike 32bits (refering to xp 32) , kis works best here with everything its built for 100percent working (well ofcourse.. Xp it was developed for..)
Has anyone used/tried panda?

In my opinion....the best one is nod32...if u like to play with suspicious files nod 32 is the best antivirus.

WHy?? because it wont give as many false alarms on virus that dont are virus and will detect virus that are really viruses. I've been using all engines of antivirus and i got to say nod32 pleases my needs...and nod321 makes it even easier to find serials for nod32.

If u are a Linux user like me...no need of engine of antivirus is needed...although if u are paranoid in security like I was, use Bitdefender for LInux machines, works perfect.
Hope it was helpfully ^^

Or just use Linux and say goodbay to all crap of viruses XD Linux the best OS.

None, use vmware for your internet activity, so even if something gets in, after snapshot restore it's gone. Cya AVs and your system slowdown.

Although, ESET seems like far the best choice regarding system resources.

I do not use an antivirus per se. I use WinPatrol(I wrote a keygen if anyone is interested) which alerts me to startup/autorun changes. I despise an AV that consumes system resources and deletes files without warning just because it thinks they are harmful.

I use NOD, but more as a matter of habit more than anything else. I have noticed that it does seem to have bloated over the years, so I tend to make sure the settings are on their lowest and make sure I use a mvps hosts file and just be aware of what I am doing.

After reading ths thread I am tempted to give Avira a try, but as I am pretty poor, is there any way of getting it to work, similar to nod321?

I have tried to get used to using a firewall (comodo primarily) but gave up with the endless interuptions and had so many exceptions it just seemed a waste of time. So now I just stick with the m$ one (which does seems little better now with win7, but im sure would be of no use to a determined bit of code).

The more sophisticated the heuristics and the bigger the pattern database, the more secure you are. But (of course) also slower.
In some environments, you have to chose a fast engine and accept the higher risk.
