RE: DVD X Copy

I'm curious about this program. Has anyone tried to reverse it's protection? I know there is a serial check and it seems to have a online check. I don't care so much about having the program itself, I'm just interested in how to unwrap it and dump it...
Some thoughts on this would be appreciated. It doesn't like Softice, you get the File Corrupted message, but I didn't manage Softice to hook into the unwrap process of the program before the corrupted message. It doesn't respond to bpx createfile either. Could be interesting to lsee how to hook this program.

regards,
hobgoblin

BTW: DVDXPress and DVDXRescue seem to have the same protection.

The program uses mfc42.dll. The first call in all such programs is to the function __set_app_type. Set a bp for that function. When SI breaks the program will be unwrapped. You will be 17 lines down from OEP. The IAT will be corrupted so after the dump you will have to rebuild it.

Have a look on the RCE board, there was a couple of us ripping this program's protection apart a few months ago. It might be useful information for you if it's the same protection as it is now.

I didn't break it with SoftIce, as I reserve that on another PC for special occasions (device drivers mainly), instead prefering to use Ollydbg.

To Squidge

Thanks for the input guys.
Squidge: I tried to search on RCE first but didn't find anything related. I do remember some postings about it a long time ago, but when I searched after DVD X Copy, it didn't come up with anything. Do you remember what tittle the thread had? Another thing: Is it me or is it something wrong witht he search function at RCE?

TIA,
hobgoblin

No, I don't

Hi there,
No, I don't remember that. I didn't look at it. But I will search a little bit to see what it looks like.
I've been trying to get past the Softice check when looking at Platinum, but have no luck. I find an int 03, but don't exactly know how to get a round it. I'm doing some reading to find out...

Hi hobgoblin

Having just read your first post I got interested in this, not as it's any use coz I don't have a burner.

Just interested in cracking it - is there any way of getting it without having to fill out a load of detail on their web site??

/hobgoblin

BTW anyone know what's happened to RCE I just been looking and only get a message from woodman asking for ideas on the forum!!
