Quick way:
Overwrite sector 0 of the SD card (physical sector 0, not partition sector 0), remove it, then insert it again into the reader. When accessing it Windows should complain something about that the disk has not been initialized and asks you if you want to do it and format the disk afterwards.

However if normal format gives an error, the SD might be physically damaged. It's nothing which you could see with your eyes, it might be something as simple as too many writes to the sector storing the root directory and now all further writes will fail.

Or you might have a cheap 10 TB eBay fake SD card which is only a few GB big and ROM.

Generally: If it's a big expensive card with warranty send it back to the manufacturer, else throw it away and buy a new one, these things don't cost much and if a card becomes unreadable once there's a high probability it will happen again soon.

Try "SDFormatter" which can do a low-level format.

If it has been used for a while, then its probably read only and total junk. The controller which scatters the data around (well you hope unless you buy junk memory cards like Maxell which do not even scatter and beyond simple videos and pictures are useless) eventually locks down. Smash it with a hammer and be done with it. If it is under warranty maybe you can get another as suggested. It is interesting how common the read only issue is, and how difficult to detect besides empirically which is somewhat annoying.

As has been noted this is a reason not to defragment the drives. Although most of the thousands or articles which talk about this do not point out that although disk location does not matter, a large purpose in defragmentation is nothing to do with where on the disk the files are or how scattered about their data is, but has to do with the higher level master file table structures which will cause performance issues and complications in data recovery if overly fragmented.

just in case ,when the error comes ,it comes due to disk type

if you use FAT32 it should not complain but whenever you change to other like NTFS etc your mobile devices even you put that to other windows OS it shows that it is corrupted this thing took long to understand thats easy but we think something is wrong with sdcard

no card readers/usb type c other types of thing complains when it's FAT32 but when we use FAT32 and the file is more than 3.5gb approx you cant copy them it shows long size

make disk to NTFS and you can even copy 35gb iso image file as long as sdcard or usb has space in it

If you have access to Linux, try to access the SD Card using it. Sometimes it has been a savior for me when Windows failed. If your data was important, try to use a recovery tool from R-Studio or any other good data recovery software to recover your data.

There was a tool called s0kill which zeros the sector and low level format would be the best option
