Detailed SoftIce Installation guide for new versions, please

Hello!

I just want to test this lovely debugger, but I need some help.
I want to install a new version from Softice DriverSuite or Compuware DriverStudio on Win XP Pro SP1 with all hotfixes.

(1) I had it once installed, but everytime I pressed Control and D, the screen turned off (like in standby-mode), and when I pressed them again, the desktop appeared again, but the mouse did not work any more. What was the problem caused by?

(2) Do I need to download the WinXP SP1 symbol package? And, if it is not necessary, is it usefull?

(3) Where is such a guide (I only found one for older Softices).

Thanks!

You probably chose that SoftICE should run in full screen mode. SoftICE _must_ support your graca for this mode. If it doesn't, you will have to run SoftICE in window mode.

That's why I recommend to run SoftICE in window mode. Maybe this solves your first problem.

Mouse Problem: Do you use an USB mouse? I'm using one and I can't use it in SoftICE

Symbol Package: I'm not using the symbol package and I also have WinXP SP1 installed on my PC (but no Hotfixes) (I didn't know that there's a symbol package available ). I've no problems with SoftICE without the symbol package.

You should state whether you're using DriverStudio 2.x or the new 3.0. There are big changes in 3.0 with respect to setup and configuration (like no winice.dat).

Yes, it is a USB mouse.

Now, it at least works in Window-Mode.

Is there anywhere the final 3.0 Version available for download?
(Of course, I don't want to download it, I want to buy it, I just want to know it...)
