I've been using NOD32 as antivirus solution. It is fast enough and detects malware every now and then. You won't find a perfect antivirus engine as none of all will suit every single user's needs (even suiting one single user's need for protection is impossible I'd say).

In most cases you're usually better off without any AV, that's at least what I experienced.

every month the top 10 changes ...
a couple months it was Norton, and nowdays some say BitDefender...
I myself use the free AVG :-) and it's enough for me as an ordinary user.

NOD32 is for sure the fastest and for old computers that's the best AV. However, it seems that Avira has a the best detection rate.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

For protection on my personal computers I recommend :-

Avira free http://www.free-av.de/en/download/download_servers.php
Malwarebytes free http://www.malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware free http://www.superantispyware.com//
Outpost 2009 free http://free.agnitum.com/

and heard good things about Comodo Internet Security http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/
but never used it personally

personally use Panda Internet Security.
i switch to them after NOD32 fails to fix/defend my pc at my office.

comodo have good firewall, but not their other product. it is good only to block any malware/trojan's internet connection.

Hmmm let's see NOD32, Kaspersky and dr. Web. I think those 3 are good

AVG heuristics is very good, but in overall detection Kaspersky is the best.
Panda is very resource hungry.

I can't stand AV running on my system, usually they delete perfectly good packed files for no reason
Anyway, I can always tell if something dodgy is on my system, real crackers don't need AV tools

i have never used anti virus products, they slow your system down.. Just better to get latest patches and be careful Some of the newer ones use the anti virus programs flaws to infect your system.. Also better to turn off unused services on your system too.. no ports open no doors..
