Re: Sice
maybe you forgot to load the symbols?
load kernel32.dll and user32.dll and so on with the symbol loader or edit winice.dat->the last 15 lines you can specify the loading of dll symbols hope this helps |

Sice and XP
Mr. Sade:
No offense intended, but if you had used the "search" button and entered the terms "Softice" or "Sice" + "WinXP" you would find that you question has been asked and answered several times before. This topic has also been addressed many, many times on the RCE Messageboard. You need to learn how to search for answers if you want to actually become a good reverser. At least do a little checking around before asking a question that has been asked over and over. For example, see this post: http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=527&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 The short answer is that Sice simply does not work well with WinXP, at least in version D.S. 2.6. Many people report that their breakpoints don't work, even if they have fixed the exporting of symbols. For a few, it work well and for many more, breakpoints just don't work correctly. Sorry about that. You'll just have to get either a better operating system (i.e. Win2k) or use Win98 or another debugger, until the problems are fixed by Numega and a copy of the updated program becomes available. Regards.

I did a search but :
"bpr" is a too short word to be usable for a search ans soft-ice is too general... Finally I want to say that all is working fine. I used it for hours and put all other kind of bp and I encounter no problem. What I said is that bpr is not a command anymore (maybe it is not driver studio but driver suite or something similar). What make me thinking that is that whem you start typing a command, all recognized command appear in the bottom of soft-ice like bmp, bpx, bpe, ... and bpr does not appear... |

caron.nico:
I don't wish to belabor the point, but I just typed "softice + WinXP" in the search button form and got 19 entries, many of which are discussing breakpoint problems with WinXP and D.S. 26. The point is that learning how to search is still one of the most important skills a reverser can have because it will lead you to the information you need to do what you want to do. Regards.

Five out of Five Stars on that suggestion.
It is true that Ones ability to search, dig, scratch, and pilfer are a reversers greatest assets. Learn this and you WILL be well on your way. |
