Emule is so slow for me

Usually I have to wait hours just for a download to start, even if there are lots of sources.

ed2k network works on upload ratio system, if you upload much your priority goes better so you can download instantly.
time ago i tried to patch emule client but this wouldnot work because the credit is not stored locally, i think.

Rhodium: you amazed me. How VIP member could ask such thing here?

There are many more suitable places but since you have these three letters describing your status I suppose JMI will not kick us if I add my 2 cents.

Ratio is something less important in Emule. Less important than connection status. If you have "LOW ID" (usually obtained on shared computers, firewalls nd proxies) you can forget about downloading anything serious.

Emule is slow for many people actually, not just me. It's hard to get the settings "just right".

It's a valid thread.

You know, exetools isn't exactly the most active forum on the net. I post on forums where there are 700 active users at any given time.

My point is that we should welcome new posts and posters. Or we may end up in a situation where there are only 3 new posts per day. (sometimes it's like that here).

Anyway, let's keep the thread on-topic.

Emule runs in a couple ways though, so merely saying it's slow really doesn't get you anywhere. Like everything else emule is only fast if the object you're trying to get is well seeded. In other words there's many people with the file.

So generally we're either speaking that the file is rather new, or that it's porn. Also to add to the benifit of the emule system there's been an extra underlying system developed. You get placed on someone's queue, but if you are to send to them at any time you're rating with that one person goes higher. This way his client will automatically move you down the list faster than others.

So merely leaving your client on and sharing with everyone helps out, but not perfectly in a bit torrent way.

So I mean, I guess simply put, it's slow because you're asking for something rare. I guess look for more porn? :-)

Agree but on ExeTools I saw topics much closer to reversing than emule question. They were deleted (still wondering why).

dyn!o:

If you have questions about why posts or threads get deleted, address them to me by PM. I'm the one who makes most of those decisions. Generally it is because, for whatever reason, they strike me as having no general useful purpose. It is a judgment call which I attempt to exercise with some forethought.

Here the subject was about a method of acquiring software utilized by many of our users and an inquiry about how the speed of that process might be improved. Such a question has, at least, the potential for a discussion of programming issues related to things which are generally discussed here.

Let me also repeat a comment I have posted several times before. Address your comments to the subject of the Post, not the poster. That also is my job.

Regards,

JMI: I have no questions. Expressed my thoughts only (not criticism but contemplation).

The rules are fine for me.

Anyway back to the topic,
There a couple of things you can try :

1 Set the ports to different ports than the default

A number of ISP are limiting traffic on the default ports for emule so it's better to change them. In the Connections tab under Preferences you can set the TCP and UDP ports for the client port and the UDP port for Kadmilia. Just set them to anything you want

2. Check if your ports are open to access from the outside (no firewall blocking them)

If you don't do that you will get a low id
For this you can go to h__p://tdn.no-ip.org/connection_test and test the different ports you entered

3. Test your connection speed and enter the exact numbers in the settings of emule

What many people don't realize is that having the settings right in the wizard when it asks what your connection is, is very important.
To do this go to h__p://www.broadbandreports.com/stest to test your connection and then click on the wizard to set your connection type accordingly (on the bottom of the windows there is a way to enter numbers manually, enter the one you found there)

Hope this helps

With the new version of emule, i've set upload speed to 10kps, which seems to have the effect of uncapping the download, so my download's at 999kps. For me, i connect to both the KAD network (much, much more files), and razorback2 (or whichever server has the higher userbase). Make sure all of your ports are forwarded, so that you get a HighID. Now everything should be fine, it might take emule awhile to actually get decent speeds, but that's because the MORE you upload, the FASTER you will advance on the queue list (it's the emule mechanism...). However, THAT information is stored on the other person's computer, so there's no way to trick it/mess it up.

One problem i've had in the past is my ISP banning emule ports/servers, so i could never connect, except to KAD. dunno, that screws it up a lot.
