Task Explorer v1.8.0 01.05.2026

Quote:
TaskExplorer 1.8.0 introduces several maintenance updates and fixes aimed at improving stability and compatibility across systems. The integrated PHlib library has been updated to version 4.0.26115, bringing the project in line with the latest improvements from the underlying System Informer components and ensuring better reliability when interacting with modern Windows builds.

This release also resolves a startup crash that affected some systems, improving overall application stability during initialization. In addition, an issue where job object names were not displayed correctly has been corrected, restoring proper visibility of job object information in the interface. Another crash condition triggered when clicking the SYSTEM_IDLE_PROCESS_ID entry has been fixed as well (issue #116).

A notable change in this release concerns the software signing pipeline. Not only is the kernel driver now signed by Microsoft as before, but all executable and dynamic library files, as well as the installer itself, are now additionally signed using our EV code signing certificate. This ensures stronger authenticity guarantees and improves trust signals in Windows security mechanisms such as SmartScreen.

Overall, version 1.8.0 focuses on improving robustness and strengthening the security and distribution integrity of TaskExplorer.
Changed
  • updated PHlib to version 4.0.26115

Fixed
  • fixed crash issue on start up affecting soeme systems

Task Explorer v2.0.0

Task Explorer v2.0.0 released on 09.09.2026

Quote:
Task Explorer 2.0 is a major release introducing native Linux support and remote system monitoring.

Task Explorer is now available natively for Linux on both x64 and ARM64. The Linux version includes Wine integration, allowing Task Explorer to expose additional Windows-specific information for Wine processes, including Windows process names and PIDs, handles, windows and tokens.

The second major addition is remote monitoring through the new TaskServer and TaskRemote components. Task Explorer can now connect to and monitor remote Windows and Linux systems, including cross-platform connections, and multiple machines can be monitored simultaneously. Machine selection and cluster-mode controls have been added directly to the toolbar to make working with multiple systems easier. Remote access includes secure authentication, encrypted credential storage and automatic discovery of TaskServer instances on the local network. Remote monitoring requires a Task Explorer supporter certificate, available from the Xanasoft store at xanasoft.com.

On Windows, Task Explorer 2.0 also introduces optional Window Agents that allow windows belonging to other user sessions to be enumerated and controlled. The built-in Windows security object editor has been replaced with a custom permissions editor.

Under the hood, much of Task Explorer has been reorganized around a new system abstraction layer that allows local Windows, local Linux and remote systems to be handled through the same interfaces. PHlib has also been updated to version 4.0.26241. These architectural changes provide the foundation for further expansion of Task Explorer's cross-platform and remote-management capabilities.
Added
  • added native Linux support with x64 and ARM64 builds
  • added remote system monitoring using TaskServer and TaskRemote, including cross-platform Windows/Linux connections and monitoring of multiple machines
  • added secure remote authentication, credential storage and local network server discovery
  • added Wine integration on Linux, including Windows process names, handles, windows, tokens and Windows PIDs
  • added optional Window Agents for enumerating and controlling windows in other Windows user sessions
  • added machine selection and cluster mode controls to the toolbar
  • added windows mini dump helper

Changed
  • significantly reworked the internal architecture to support multiple local and remote systems through a common interface
  • added a custom permissions editor replacing the Windows securable object editor
  • updated PHlib to version 4.0.26241

This looks like a really impressive project. I've been using Process Hacker for a while, and seeing a tool that builds on its library while focusing on the "what is it doing" aspect is very refreshing. The Thread Panel with stack traces and the Memory Panel with string search are exactly the kind of features that make debugging and reverse engineering much more efficient.

I'm particularly interested in the .NET panel and the Modules Panel with DLL injection/unloading. I often work with .NET assemblies protected by Reactor or ConfuserEx, and being able to quickly inspect loaded modules and memory regions would be very helpful when analyzing runtime behavior.

The fact that it's built with Qt and planned to be ported to Linux is also great news—there's definitely a gap for a proper advanced task manager on that platform.

I'll download it and give it a try on my current projects. Thanks for sharing this with the community, and I'll report back if I come across any edge cases or have feature suggestions.

One quick question: does the .NET panel currently support inspecting assemblies that are loaded dynamically (e.g., via Assembly.Load from a byte array), or does it rely on the module being on disk?
